Having a website that divulges anything about your life is always a tedious balance of sharing good information and sharing too much information… about family members, where you live, daily habits and other things that people with bad intentions could use if they wanted to prey on you. I’ve gone back and forth about several topics and whether they divulge too much. This post about concealed carrying is one of them. Ultimately, I’ve decided to share it because, although many people don’t agree on the weapons topic, a lot do. The other side of it, as I mentioned, is the privacy side, but with so much information so readily available on anyone, knowing that I carry is probably a wash in terms of personal impact. What is of impact though, is the one person that reads this and because of it, has her gun on her when she needs it, or the husband or boyfriend that decides to order a pair of carry leggings for his significant other because her main deterrent from carrying is comfort. The impact may not come from owning a pair of these at all, but just reigniting someone’s interest in concealed carry or reading that there are other women who feel the same way they do. People get hot about the topic of bearing arms. Friends will unfriend you and anti-gun activists will tell you that as a woman, mother and nurturer, you’re a terrible person and irresponsible if you allow firearms anywhere near you or your children. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for me, having family to protect is exactly the reason I carry a firearm. To me, being responsible is to know the laws in your area, have a gun and be practiced with it so you can defend yourself and those you love. It is possible to keep a weapon securely and still be accessible while you teach your kids age appropriate firearm safety. But again, it’s not for everyone, and that’s ok.
The other thing I’ll say before getting into the leggings, is that it’s been hard trying to figure out how to share all this or even which category page on the blog to put it in. Sometimes it seems like it would be better done as just a Facebook post with a link, but that loses a lot in conveying how much I really like these, so I’ll just ramble on it a bit. Ya’ll are probably used to that by now. 🙂
Personally, I carry every single day one way or another. It’s a combination of the fact we have all manner of four legged and slithering predators where we live and that there are truly evil people in the world that do unimaginable things, both specifically targeted and randomly, based on whatever twisted whim they have at the time. If I’m out, I most often purse carry because I’m not always in jeans or pants that you can put a holster in. Purse carry has it’s drawbacks. I do have holsters for the times that I am out and want or need to have my weapon on me instead of in my purse, things like meeting a person I don’t know for a Craigslist or local facebook sale page purchase. My husband and I always go together, but we both carry. We are each other’s back-up. There are people that think that’s crazy but they are also the ones who would have glazed over the last part of sentence two of this paragraph. I also have a gun belt style holster that I occasionally use around the farm when I have on shorts and, along the way, have also tried a bunch of different shirts and tank tops. None have given much satisfaction with the way they fit or how well they concealed my weapon. All tend to give themselves away as being some sort of tactical wear. I briefly looked at the stretchy around the waist/belly band type carry products, but they just don’t work on my frame.
About a year ago, I came across leggings made by UnderTech. I read the reviews which, like so many things, had some people that were thrilled about them and others that complained about every. single. detail. They were very pricey, but I decided to try a pair of the Capri length, which were the cheapest. Turns out, I liked them so well, I went back and ordered a Full Length pair and then just last week ordered a pair of their newest release that is a little more dressy. And, just so you know, UnderTech is not paying me to promote them, they don’t even know who I am. I do however have an Amazon Affiliate account so if you order through the links I have given, I will receive a portion of the sale like I do with other links. It’s part of why we run the website. I did leave UnderTech a really good review on their website, but decided the best review would be something like this post. I have never done a review post before because review posts most often happen through an arrangement with the company. This one does not. I legit love these and think it’s worthwhile info to pass along. So, the product:
The leggings are machine washable, come in right or left hand versions, have a front and rear carry option along with a small pocket for carrying an extra magazine or your I.D. and concealed carry permit, or phone, cash, credit cards, house key, etc. I really like the retention strap which seems to be a pretty recent addition. I don’t feel like the weapon would move excessively without it, but there is almost zero chance of it coming un-holstered with the strap in place.
The capri length falls about mid-calf and all three versions I have ordered seem to be true to size. Of them all, I think the full-length ones are my favorite. They look completely acceptable both as work-out pants with sneakers or dressed up with a sweater and knee boots. The newest versions in burgundy or olive green have a seam down the front and additional rear pockets and side pockets at the upper thigh. They are just as stretchy as the leggings/yoga pants version, but are made from a slicker material. Very pretty and very similar in look to the way Columbia and Patagonia brand clothing have all the seams and blocking patterns.
In the photo below, I am carrying my Glock 26 in the built-in front holster and wearing a size small in the “dressy” burgundy ones. (UnderTech UnderCover Women’s Concealed Carry 101 Jeggings in Burgundy (Medium, right)). I don’t think anyone would detect it unless they knew it was there and were looking specifically for it. The chunkier or darker the sweater, the better concealed it is, but I intentionally chose a thin, light colored sweater to show how easily it conceals. There is a little fit difference in the dressy ones as compared to the regular leggings in that the leggings have a slightly higher waist. Both fit well and it isn’t enough that it affects where my weapon sits.
The rear carry below is equally as concealed or more so because of my build and hair style.
My fancy burgundy leggings don’t look quite like the lady in the advertisement… I eat cheeseburgers though, and I’m betting she doesn’t, haha! Maybe it’s the stripper heels. I should try them out here, that would be interesting. 😉
At any rate, if you carry or have a gal that carries, I highly recommend these. They also have shirts and shorts (for men and women) and have added a boot cut legging and ones with zipper pockets. Hopefully they will also come out with a blue jeans colored legging soon. THAT’s the one I’m hoping for!
